Thanks, I think it is an Indian word , I have a American little Indian in my bloodline but dont know what tribe , the book sayes Rosy Putthuff who was an Indian, it would have to be a tribe close to Kentucky because , my ancestors settled in Kentucky , this is cool I got a message from Serbia , greetings from Kentucky.

    hi Keoukuk,

As i know Keokuk was chief of Fox Indians. He was allie of Sauk and his chief Ma-kha-thaime-shekiakiakh(am not sure do i spell correct) or Black Hawk in the first decade of XIX century. I like history of Native Americans.Wish u good luck. I noticed that you know a lot of flintknapping, would like to learn this technique beside bows.Greetings!

Zoki I know very little about Serbia. Do you live in a rural area? Is it easy to get supplies such as glue or epoxies, string material, feathers, and such? I started shooting a recurve in 1974, at that time archery was very popular (not primitive archery though). You could buy archery supplies almost anywhere. Today you mostly have to order materials. There is a large Outdoor Sports store a mile from my house (Bass Pro), they sell many archery supplies for compounds, but nothing for traditional archery. Good luck with the Elm. I look forward to seeing your bows on PP. Best regards, Chuck S.

    Chuck,
I live in the town in the south, surrounded by a highland rich with elm, oak, walnut, ash, poplar, maple. Also part of my family has property in this area.Big problem is cause i do not have a lot of time to go there often, am working as prof. of history,do not have people for co-operation do not have good bow bench. But i have big support of my wife;-) isn't it nice, and hope that my comming baby will do same as daddy;-).It is very difficult to find epoxy glue here, but i am using Henkel.I am trying to work only with basic tools and without any modern technique, i am totally traditionalist and involved only in traditional archery. Also, i am working on the research about presence of composite bows in mediaeval Serbia(very difficult job) and archery from arriving the Slavs to fall of Serbia and other serbian lands under Ottoman empire, all aspects, for years and years.
Wish you good luck, God bless you, see you.

Hi Zoran I did look at your sapling bow, and agree with the others, If you glue down that fissure you should be fine, adding a wrapping of cord would be good insurance. Will this be your first bow? There is no better feeling than shooting a bow you made youself, The funny thing is that once you start making bows it is hard to stop. I have 12 bows, eight that I made, and I have two staves drying now. Like you, I make my own arrow shafts. either with a small hand plane or I have made a router table for faster production. Keep those bows coming! Chuck S.

    Thank you Chuck.
This is not my first bow(this is my first ``seems to be`` shootable bow) , i made 2 but even if i have good knowledge about making primitive and composite bows it is quite different to practice it, so my first two were assymetrical. It is true, after one tries to make hisown bow it is like some infection, am sure i will never stop. Though i prepared myself for years and years but i started to realize my wishes after i get married, i got big support from my wife, not only about bows but everything. It is very difficult to me cause i am lack of good bow bench but will solve this problem.About shafts, i always use wood rasp though your way is better and faster.About boards, some guy that works with wood just splitted some elm and i need to assist him cutting boards soon.Thank you for support.
Wish you good luck and all the best to you and yours, God bless you

    A to :)
